I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to the rest of the Super Second Grade Team!! We have two new additions to our team this year...who may look familiar to some of you...Mrs. Angie Hoggan (far left) and Mrs. Jodi Anderson-Jones (far right). They are joining us from 1st grade. Then (from left) Mrs. Erin Vasconcellos, Mrs. Melissa Scott, Ms. Pam Kensinger and then myself. If you see any of us around the halls, don't hesitate to say hi! We are all looking forward to working together with the entire second grade. Here's to a great 2014-15 school year!

Welcome Back!
It's hard to believe that summer is already coming to a close...time sure does fly when you are having fun! I know some of you may be sad that summer is almost over. I, on the other hand, am filled to the brim with excitement! Simply put, I LOVE back-to-school time! Cleaning, organizing, decorating the classroom, shopping for new school supplies and the perfect 1st day outfit, and coming back together with my friends, the amazing faculty and staff of Henry Clay.
It was great to see so many families, old and new, come through my door at Open House! Nothing makes a teacher feel better than seeing big smiles of excitement on new students and receiving visits from previous students. I know the room looked pretty well put together on Thursday, but here's a look at what it looked like before...
Once all the housekeeping was over...it was time to get to work, LITERALLY. Opening Convocation at Hanover High School, bright and early Monday Morning! A ceremony filled with excitement to help kick off a new school year. It was an honor to have floor seats this year in support of one of John M. Gandy's reading specialists, Christina Saunders, as she was being honored as Hanover County's Teacher of the year! With the theme of HH: Hanover Heroes, the focus was put on heroes big and small and how we all make a difference in the world of education. "I teach. What's YOUR Super Power?" Pay attention to that phrase...you may see again sometime :)
So as you can see, we have been working hard to get ready to welcome all of your kiddos Tuesday morning! Soak up these last few moments of summer, because school is now back in session.
See you tomorrow!!

Day 1: After... |
It took the better part of three full days to get it all put together...but it was worth it.

It wasn't until Day 3 that all the finishing touches started coming together!

A Holiday Alphabet - December 2013
Many thanks to Mrs. Harris for putting on another wonderful holiday performance! The students recited their poem without flaw and sang their little hearts out! I was so proud to see them all do so well on stage!
Another way we had some holiday fun was incorporating physical education with our writing! Mr. D came up with a great activity that required students to use not only their physical muscles but their brain muscles as well! Students participated in a team relay down the length of the gym to grab three foam letters at a time. Once they returned with their letters, they were challenged to come up with as many Christmas and holiday words as they could. Take a look!
I hope each and every one of you had a fantastic holiday, surrounded by the ones you love.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2013!!

Let's Talk Turkey ~ November 2013
There's nothing I love more than the holidays, especially Thanksgiving...Surrounded by good friends, family, food, and fun. Take a look at what all of my talented turkeys were up to this November.

A classic family homework assignment - DISGUISE YOUR TURKEY - so he doesn't get caught by the farmer! Every year I am more and more impressed with what my students come up with. Take a look for yourself!

Thanks to many generous donations to the PTA fundraiser, our class earned the most feathers on their turkey. In turn, Miss Heintz got to wear the turkey costume, and I dressed the part of the farmer.
But have no fear, I didn't make her wear it all day - we switched roles at lunchtime!
My last challenge for my little turkeys, was to get them to realize the true cost of a Thanksgiving meal. Students were given a budget of $50 and the weekly grocery store flyer. Their challenge was to see if they could "buy" a Thanksgiving feast without going over budget. You should have seen what they were serving at their dinner tables!! YUM!!
Gobble Gobble - Happy Thanksgiving 2013!!
